1. The Objective
To nurture the students to be cooperative and competitive medical talents who possess leading temperament, international view, humanistic mentality and research capacity.

2. Majors, Courses and Systems
The School is equipped with two majors of basic medical sciences and forensic medicine, and it also offers the basic medical course to the majors in clinical medicine, preventive medicine, health management, pharmacology, clinical pharmacology and nursing. For the majors in clinical medicine, there are five-year schooling and eight-year schooling, respectively. The training program of basic medical sciences and forensic medicine lasts five years, respectively.
Taking the comprehensive advantage of Fudan University, the School adopts the progressive paradigm of all-round courses, arts and science courses and major-related courses (compulsory and selective), which is divided into three stages. At the first stage, the undergraduates take the all-round course on humanities and social sciences, the basic theories of natural sciences, etc. Next, they move on to such courses as human anatomy, histoloembryology, cytology, physiology, pathology, pharmacology, biochemistry, pathophysiology, immunology, microbiology and parasitology before they are engaged in practice training. In doing so, they are built to have a solid foundation for their future clinical practice and scientific research. After that, the advanced students are engaged in major-related studies and practices. Those who major in clinical medicine are supposed to take the courses of internal medicine, surgery, gynecology and obstetrics, pediatrics, etc, which are accompanied by clinical practice in the teaching hospitals. Those who major in basic medical sciences and forensic medicine are to improve themselves in the theory and practice of scientific studies within the department, respectively.

3. Educational Reforms and Accomplishments
The School spares no effort in building its curriculum system in terms of faculty, textbook, pedagogy and evaluation. Since 2004, it has developed bilingual courses and courses in English; integrated the courses of basic medical sciences for the majors in basic medical sciences, pharmacology and nursing; improved the experimental curriculum provision and teaching models; established a virtual experimental platform;  and offered the programs of scientific research training integrating morphology, functional disciplines and molecular biology. Since 2013, the School has implemented the integration of undergraduate and graduate studies on basic medical sciences, optimizing the training model of 5+X as a flexible and supporting platform for the development of students’ individuality.
Recently, the School has been engaged in developing online programs, Massive Open Online Courses (MOOC) and other web-based learning activities. Since 2009, the School has received 9 national and municipal awards for the achievements and accomplishments in medical education; coauthored 16 textbooks of the 11th and 12th five-year plan; and won the recognition of 4 medical programs, including medical genetics, as the national elite course and of 14, including molecular biology, as the municipal elite course.

4. Comprehensive Ability Training
The School is actively involved in the international exchanges with 61 colleges and universities from 19 countries, including Yale University, Stanford University, University of California, University of Edinburgh, Waseda University, Kyoto University. To promote this, the School has established special scholarships for students to apply; consequently, the number of such students has reached over 10%.
The School places an emphasis on nurturing students’ scientific originality, won 7 national and municipal projects of scientific originality in the total amount of RMB6, 530,000.00 in the past three years. Furthermore, the School implements a full mentorship so as to expose students to scientific research at an earlier time and arouse their interest in doing science. Under mentorship, the number of the students who have been involved in scientific research has reached over 90%, and one third of them have managed to be funded on and off campus.
In the past five years, the students have published over 100 scientific papers and reviews in the domestic and international peer-reviewed journals.
Additionally, the School encourages students to participate in extracurricular activities such as Medical Navigation Plan, Growth Project, Humanities and Liberal Arts, and Youth Leagues with a view to promoting their self-improvement and self-renewal; consequently, the participation rate has reached 100%.
